Kindergarten- Mondrian Collage (Primary Colors)

Objectives:

· TLW identify AB, AAB, & ABB patterns

· TLW identify the work of Piet Mondrian

· TLW recall the 3 primary colors

· TLW describe the difference between positive and negative space

· TLW construct a finished paper collage using the 3 primary colors

· TLW practice various basic art room procedures

· TLW demonstrate each art room procedure

· TLW recall the 3 art room rules

Review patterns 3 kinds we worked on- play the what comes next game/ Introduce + Practice song about primary colors- quiz students on them

· Slide Show- introducing “non-objective” or abstract art/ looking at the work of Piet Mondrian/ his shapes+ use of primary colors/ looking for positive space (colors + lines) vs. negative space (white areas)

· Students will begin working on their Mondrian Paper Collage- cutting strips of paper to overlap and create various shapes & spaces

Paper, pencils, worksheets, crayons, colored pencils, markers, construction paper, TV, computer, digital images

Misc:

Mondrian Paper Collage: Students will be creating this art work using elements of collage and drawing. They will decide where to place their black strips of paper to create various shapes. They will also decide if they want these areas to be positive or negative spaces.
